Celebration of Life
October 17, 2015
Welcome: Doug Hale.
For some time, we have all known that this moment was coming, and now it is here, but that doesn’t make it any easier. We all loved Dave Perrin. We all have some special memories of our relationship with him and now we have assembled to remember and honor him and express our love to his family and praise God for his love and care for us. On behalf of Dave’s family, thank you all for coming. I know there are people here from Vandelia, from Westmont Christian Church; from Lubbock Christian University; from the Emmaus community and no telling where else.
We are here today because Dave Perrin was--as Paul said of the men he had sent to Jerusalem on a special assignment“--a representative of the churches and an honor to Christ” (2 Cor. 8:23).
I know this will be mentioned several times to day, but I will say it up front: Dave loved music; he wrote songs; played the guitar and loved to sing. So we are going to lift our voices together several times to sing some of his favorite songs.

Scripture Message: Doug Hale
I appreciate so much what all of you have said about David. I want to share just a few of my own thoughts and conclude with Scripture.
I always loved Dave’s gentle, humble spirit. He was always supportive of my preaching ministry and often gave me an encouraging word about my sermons. He loved God. He was a wonderful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and he loved the people of God, wherever he found them.
He had a heart for the unity of God’s people. As has been mentioned, he was very active in the Emmaus community and as you know that is a movement that brings Christ-followers from many different backgrounds together. He and Dawn also were members of the Westmont Christian Church for several years and he served as an elder for that congregation. I am so grateful for his heart for the unity of all believers.
For several years, Gilbert Herrera, a Baptist evangelist, conducted a Wednesday night service here in the auditorium. For some time, Dave helped with the music for that service. He wanted people to hear the Gospel and come to know Christ.
Dave knew and reveled in the grace of God. In that respect, he carried on the legacy of his Dad and Mom. Because he knew God’s grace, Dave was a gracious, loving, merciful person--extending God’s grace to others.
A lot of good things have been said about David Perrin and they are all true, but we also know that he was not perfect. Just like all the rest of us, he failed, he made mistakes, he sinned. But our hope is not in how good Dave was, nor is it in how good we are--our hope is in the goodness and graciousness and mercy of God. That is where Dave found his hope and his confidence.
Let me read now from the Word of our loving, gracious God--I hope these will be words of blessing and encouragement for all who are here.

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
(Isaiah 40:28-31; 41:10).
Because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves--it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus do to good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
(Ephesians 2:4-10)
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
(Rom. 5:1-2, 8)
Dave’s hope and our hope and assurance lies purely and solely in God’s grace.
And now, I ask that you receive this ancient blessings, spoken by Aaron over the people of Israel.
And now, I ask that you receive this ancient blessings, spoken by Aaron over the people of Israel.
The LORD bless you and keep you;
The LORD make his face shine on you;
The LORD be gracious to you;
The LORD turn his face toward you,
and give you peace .
(Num. 6:24-26).
